Biography
Samantha Hargis is an Associate Attorney at Schmergel & Mersberger, PLC, where she practices family law and assists on matters involving divorce, child custody, and property division. She regularly drafts prenuptial and post-marital settlement agreements and plays and active role in discovery, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation. Before joining the firm as an associate, Samantha clerked at Schmergel & Mersberger throughout law school, gaining extensive hands-on experience in family law litigation, discovery, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation. She now uses this experience to work closely with clients to gather and analyze financial and personal information, draft pleadings and discovery, and develop practical strategies tailored to each client's goals.
Samantha received her undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland, College Park (Go Terps!), graduating with academic honors. She earned her Juris Doctor from George Mason University School of Law, where she participated in Moot Court and the National Security Law Journal. During law school, she also served as a student advisor in the Mason Veterans and Servicemembers Legal Clinic (M-VETS), helping veterans with military discharge upgrade and VA benefits matters. As a student advisor in this pro-bono clinic, Samantha argued a case in front of the Board of Veterans' Appeals using her third-year practice certificate.
As a resident of Arlington, Samantha is deeply connected to the local community and brings a strong understanding of the Arlington courts and the unique needs of families in the area. She is barred in Virginia and is committed to guiding clients through family law matters with professionalism, diligence, and care.
